Happy October 1st! Can you believe it?
I started ALL THINGS GIRL about this time last year as a forum to feature, well, all things girl…or all things, girl…or whatever it was I was trying to accomplish.
It started with a post about one of my favorite girls, Sarah Jessica Parker. ATG moved into subjects like music, shoes, the best thongs (Hanky Panky) and bras (VS), and oh yeah, the embarrassing vibe post.
Then I made some friends. ALL THINGS GIRL morphed into author interviews and guest posts. That was a lot of fun too but I missed blogging. What exactly is blogging? I’m still not sure, but I missed doing it. So here it goes, I’m going “old school” ALL THINGS GIRL through the rest of 2012.
My inspiration for today’s post comes from the October issue of Cosmopolitan. How can you go wrong with a magazine that splays the words “Orgasm Guaranteed” in a pink sunburst across the cover? I’m a dedicated Cosmo reader and even though most of my reading material is online, I still pick up each issue of Cosmo. It’s the perfect combo of sex, style and great light reading. I love the Confessions and Red-Hot Reads regular features (if Cosmo is reading – Yes! I would love to write a Red-Hot Read for you! Really, I would…just ask…I’ll wait…patiently).
The guaranteed orgasm article did capture my initial attention (page 166 – you really must read it) but so did the little feature on mood altering scents. Autumn is filled with fantastic smells. The air is crisp with the scent of pine and fallen leaves, then there’s the smell of apples, cinnamon and burning embers from the first fire lit on a chilly Saturday night. Scents are like a good song, they can alter our moods if we just take the time to enjoy them.
So here are Cosmo’s scent picks and what they do to us:
If you want to feel / Try this / Why
Aroused / Cinnamon / According to the article, cinnamon fools your brain into remembering a sexy interlude. Instant turn on!
Happy / Man’s Sweat / What? Apparently it’s a stress releaser. Um, not sure about this one. #Eeww
Smart / Rosemary / This herb increases brain function around memory when it enters your bloodstream.
Calm / Apples or Cucumbers / A whiff of these fresh scents soothe frazzled nerves. Look at it this way, if they don’t you can always toss them into a salad #bonus
Social / Flowers / Floral scents increase the desire for human interaction. Not sure about this one either. My vote is to sub it in for “Happy”. I try to keep a bouquet of flowers in my kitchen, just because they make me happy. Especially dahlias.
Optimistic / Sunblock / Close your eyes and sniff a coconut scented sunblock tube. You’ll feel like you’re on vacation. But hello, when you open your eyes and realize you’re not on that tropical island, wouldn’t that make you more depressed?
Thanks for the fun Cosmo! I have an apple pie laced with cinnamon in the oven, a sprig of rosemary in my flower bouquet, a tube of sunblock in my purse and AB’s t-shirts in the washing machine, because nuzzling a clean shirt makes me happier than a dirty one.
Okay, there’s so much going on this week!

Great post! I’m gonna have to check out Cosmo and I love the scents info…I agree about the man sweat thing. When the hubby is a little sweaty, there’s a very masculine scent I like, but if he’s really sweaty and gross, yeah he can just stay on the other side of the house, or preferable just go jump in the shower!
Lol! I’m with you, BK!
