Happy Monday!
I hope you had a great weekend. I did something I’ve never done but have always wanted to do…
Skydiving?
White water rafting?
Nope, I had a Brazilian wax treatment, that’s what! Now before you cringe, cross your legs and move onto another blog – let me start by saying, it really wasn’t that bad!
But I’m getting ahead of myself. Here’s how it all started…
*cue the harp music*
My new coworker, Lana (name changed to protect the innocent), and I took a 3 hour road trip a few weeks ago. We immediately hit it off, she’s fun, has great style and was happy to be my navigator for the trip. Our chat quickly moved from business to girl stuff. She had just moved to the area and asked for salon recommendations. After mentioned my favorite primping spots we revealed our most unusual salon service – mine: eyelash extensions (silly, I know, but I do love to have long lush lashes); hers: Brazilian wax treatments.
I was intrigued! I knew a lot of women waxed it all, but I never actually talked to someone who did it. The questions I had!
Question #1 – Where the heck do you go? I mean, I certainly can’t ask the woman who waxes my eyebrows to do that.
Answer: The European Wax Center!
Ah ha! I’ve seen those signs cropping up all over the place, I just wasn’t sure what exactly went on there.
Question #2 – Who does it? There aren’t any men waxers, are there?
Answer: I’ve never seen a male technician so I don’t think so.
Question #3 – Does it hurt?
Answer: Like a bitch.
Ouch. Okay. I thought about it for a couple of weeks. Then I gave myself the “toughen-up-buttercup” pep talk and decided if Lana can do it, I can too! *gulp*
Armed with a couple of Aleve liquid gels I walked into the European Wax Center. It was like walking into a spa. The pretty waiting area and nice attendants calmed my nerves. “I can do this, I can do this.”
After a couple of minutes my lovely wax specialist whisked be through the glass doors into a private room. After a series of questions, I learned:
- They use a different type of wax patented just for EWC. It goes on warm and hardens on the skin then the technician peels it off. No fabric strips.
- It’s recommended that you do not drink caffeine before the treatment (I drank two cups of coffee *snap*).
- They also recommend you take Advil or the equivalent before the treatment.
- It’s best to do it 3 – 10 days after your period.
- It does hurt like a bitch – the first time. After that it gets easier.
I closed my eyes and said “Lets do this!” and you know what? It really wasn’t that bad! Really!
If it’s something you are thinking about – I say just do it…as long as you don’t mind being exposed because, yeah, your hoo-ha and other intimate areas are totally out there. If you can get over that and a little bit of pain, you will love the results!
I must to remember to thank Lana when I get to work. The Brazilian recommendation was so much better than her last suggestion…
“Sure, have that third chocolate martini!” said Lana at the conference.
Man, did I pay for that one the next day.
Have a great week!

Alright! You have convinced me! I have been on the fence about doing this. I usually shave, but that is getting old.
mel
Yay! Go for it, Mel! You’ll love it.
Yes l have this every month, all off! It’s so lovely and leaves the skin so responsive! Never shave, only wax, l would never go back to having pubic hair now!
Hey Gemma! Yup, it’ll be yet another service to add to the monthly schedule.
I’ve never even had the nerve to have my legs waxed…I’ve always wanted to try the Brazilian Wax, but had the same questions you did. I think I need to look up somewhere around here that does it (because I’m certainly not going to the place I go to for all my other salon needs O.O).
TY for this post!!
I know how you feel, Buffy! Check out European Wax Center – they have hundreds of locations nationwide. I totally recommend them!
Not me! I’m soooo not a waxer. Tried it and the grow-back just kills me. Good for you though!
Memo to file: don’t try it yourself at home for your first time! Story on THAT another day. Still laughing/crying on that one!
Soph.
heh heh – I need to hear that story, Soph.
Too funny! Thanks for sharing your experience. I tried a “partial brazilian” last year for the 1st time. Thought I’d feel funny exposing my self. But after having children, your modesty tends to go right out the door. I will say that I would rather have a wax than shave. Oh, how did you like the tweezing of those hairs that were missed?? Now, picture this ladies, if you haven’t had this done, the tech’s face is about no more than a foot away with tweezers in her hand. But I love my tech, her & I are talking the entire time & I’m in & out of the salon in no more than 20-25 min.
I agree, Jessie. Going through childbirth cures a girl of any modesty issues, doesn’t it? I had the same great experience with my technician. We chatted about all sorts of things throughout the process and before I knew it, it was over. Easy peasy.
